Colin Jackson has launched his second annual Sanlam 'Go Dad Run' 5K and 10K for men and boys in the North East. It will take place at the Silksworth Community Pool, Tennis and Wellness Centre in Sunderland on the morning of Sunday 2nd April.
Colin will be there to set the runners off and hand out the medals and he'll be joined by a number of well known sporting names including local footballing legend Kevin Ball and double world champion athlete Jamie Baulch.
Full details can be found at the website http://www.godadrun.co.uk
They staged the first ever Sunderland Go Dad Run in 2015 with around 120 men and boys running around Silksworth and they hope to get many more than that in year two whilst still retaining the very special atmosphere.
Colin created and initially funded Go Dad Run himself in 2013 as a means of getting men and boys thinking about their health after two of his uncles developed prostate cancer and sadly only one, Tony who talked about his symptoms and sought help, survived.
Their Lead Charity Partner is Prostate Cancer UK and their three National Charity Partners are Bowel Cancer UK, Orchid (prostate, penile and testicular cancer) and the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) who are dedicated to preventing male suicide as, shockingly, that is the UK's biggest killer of men under the age of 45.
They are also working with a care based charity in each location and are very pleased that St Benedict's Hospice are their Local Charity for Sunderland.
Registration is on their website at http://godadrun.co.uk/find-your-event/sunderland-2017.html
