A record 19 Sunderland Harriers teams are entered in the Vets Men, Senior/Veteran Women and Senior Men's races at the Durham Cathedral Relays this weekend. Nine Men's Veteran teams will lead the way on the banks of the River Wear at Durham University Cricket Pavillion at 10.15, followed by the combined women's race at 10.55 and the Senior Men at 11.35. Each race is 3 legs of approximately 3,000m, on a slightly altered course this year, presumably due to recent flooding. The VM35 squad will be out to retain their title from 2015, whilst the Senior Men and Women will be looking to improve on 5th and 18th place finishes respectively last time out.
A huge amount of organisation goes into selecting and registering so many teams, so all runners should try and get to the race HQ as early as possible before their race in order to help this process go as smoothly as possible. The forecast is mostly sunny, and hopefully any lingering snow will have melted by the weekend.
