In an exciting display of determination, Sunderland Harriers' own under 15 female sprinter, Celine Obinna-Alo, recently left her mark on the track at the ESSA National Schools T&F Championships. Taking place at the prestigious venue of the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, Celine showcased her remarkable talent and made her mark in the 100m event.

Celine joined us in January of this year 2023 from Liverpool Pembroke and Sefton AC having late last year competed for them only twice, in the under 13 age group. Since then in her first year as an under 15 Celine has achieved gold in the North East Counties Championships at 100m and 200m, the Kieran Maxwell Memorial meeting, and the Charles Stewart Open meeting amongst others.

On English Schools (ESAA) Championship's first day Celine won the 100m Heat 2 of 4 in a breathtaking windy 12.19 seconds to enter Saturday's 100m final as fastest finalist of eight athletes, the other seven athletes being at least one year older being second year under 15s.

The race was a true spectacle enjoyed by many supporters on youtube, despite missing out on the gold medal by the thickness of a vest, Celine's unwavering commitment were evident throughout the event. Her exceptional display of speed allowed her to claim the silver medal and firmly establish herself as a rising star amongst young sprinters.

Celine's 12.39 seconds time in the final was a pb and the second time she had bettered the ESAA National Standard. Next year Celine will still be in the under 15 age category, so can dream of further ESAA success, although there are always other up-and-coming youngsters out there.

As part of the Sunderland Harriers team, Celine's accomplishments bring great pride and joy to her fellow athletes, coaches, and supporters. Her remarkable performances should serve as an inspiration to our aspiring young athletes.
