Carter McQue has made significant leaps and bounds in his very short high jump career.

As the U15 North East, Northern, and English indoor high jump champion after less than a year in the sport, McQue had demonstrated his exceptional talent. Winning these titles at a young age is a testament to his hard work and competitive spirit. These victories showcased his ability to perform consistently at a high level and highlighted his potential.

So it was rewarding to find Carter representing Durham County Schools in the English Schools 2023 Championships on Friday at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham. He achieved the National Standard of 1.78m yet again, to take fourth place in the U15 High Jump Competition.

Not content with that he travelled back to compete for Sunderland Harriers in the National Association for Boys and Girls Clubs (NABGC) National Club Championships at Shildon two days later.

In that competition Sunderland Harriers had many delighted medal winners, no more so than Carter himself. He bagged gold in High Jump, 100m, Shot Putt, and as part of the Royal Blues U15 4x100m relay team. If that were not enough he high jumped to a personal best of 1.80m, subsequently found to be a NABGC National record, breaking the previous record of 1.73m set in 2007.

Competing against the best athletes from across England and achieving such commendable results is a remarkable accomplishment. It speaks to McQue's resilience, determination, and ability to thrive in high-pressure competitions.

With his continued progress and notable performances, Carter McQue is likely to garner attention and admiration within the athletics community. His achievements at the regional, national, and inter-school levels provide a strong foundation for his athletic journey, and it will be fascinating to follow his future endeavours as he continues to develop his skills and aim for even greater heights in high jump.
