Matt Jones showed he has fully recovered from his recent marathon exertions with a comfortable win at the Age UK Harewood Dash last weekend. The Middlesbrough doctor’s 2:27:54 in Seville last month still sees him second on the UK rankings over that distance for 2016, but he showed no ill effects on Sunday, winning as he pleased by some 43 seconds in 35:13 over the undulating trails winding through the grounds of the stately home on the outskirts of Leeds.
Matt is going to need all his remarkable powers of recovery as he embarks on his next challenge in just over three weeks time, the daunting Marathon des Sables, the self-proclaimed ‘Toughest Footrace on Earth’ where he will encounter the small matter of racing 250km over six days through the Sahara Desert! Matt is raising much needed funds for Teesside Hospice, so it’s all in a good cause but he might want to look at an easier challenge next time!
