NE HARRIER LEAGUE - JUNIOR ROUND-UP BY ROWAN JAMES

It is fair to say the North-East Harrier League Cross-Country fixture at Wrekenton was a huge success all round for the club. The men won the overall event and claimed the Harrier League Division One title, the women finished fourth overall, which put placed them a comfortable fifth place in their division, and the junior members performed particularly well over the tough course, whilst their support for the senior members was both outstanding and much appreciated.

In the under-11 race Josh Bland, brother of under-15 runner Nathan, ran a brilliant race and finished 12th overall.

In the under-13 age group, Sunderland had a total of eight athletes competing; four in the boy’s races and four in the girl’s. In the boys race we were represented by John Oliver, Connor Prior, Duran Gun and Harry Tiltman. John ran a great race from the slow pack to finish fourth, followed by Connor Prior who made his way from the fast pack through the field to finish 15th. Harry then came in 21st with an impressive run from the slow pack and next came fast pack runner Duran Gun in 44th with a great time of 10:04!

The girl’s race was just as much of a success with Evie Compson having an outstanding to run finishing second in a great time of 11:04. Then came Freya Doran in 10th place with a time of 11:34, Caitlin Watson in 21st on 12:11 and a very impressive 11:12 by fast pack runner Lydia Stoker who moved through to 42nd.

Once the Under-13 races had finished the Under-15's began and these too proved very successful. In the boy’s race Rowan James finished 14th from the slow pack with a time of 10:24 followed by Nathan Bland in 33rd from the fast pack with a fantastic time of 9:22.

In the girl’s race we had Sarah Knight and Eve Quinn competing and they both ran extremely well. Sarah was first to finish with a phenomenal time of 9:58 from the fast pack in 12th place, followed by Eve in 20th place with an equally impressive 10:31.

Well done all!
