Davison Shield, 10th October 2015, Temple Park South Shields.
A record number of athletes attended this very popular team event at a sunny Temple Park, a great day for cross country and with very little wind we didn’t need, as we did last year volunteers holding down the tent poles. These series of races gave an opportunity to runners from under 13 to veterans to represent their club, the finishing positions from each age group added together to produce an overall winning club.
This year we had some excellent team performances and came very close to winning a bronze medal finishing 4th just one point behind third placed Tynedale, well done girls!!. The day started with a non counting under 11 race where our new recruit Madeleine Robson performed really well. The under 13’s led home by ever present Lydia Stoker finished 9th in their race with Jade Thirlwell, Evie Compson and having her first race, Ellie White, completing the team. At under 15 we had Eve Quinn followed by Grace Mackie, Grace played football on the morning and turned up to make sure we had a full team. Closing the scoring and bringing the team home in 6th place was Sophie Roche, another athlete having her first cross country race.
Jess Fox was an excellent 4th in the under 20/17 race backed up by Amy Coulson and Laura Hand we finished 7th
In the senior races the women finished 12th and the veterans an excellent 5th with Judith Thirlwell first home in 30th followed by Nicola Woodward and new recruit Sarah O’Mahoney
We had an excellent turn out from all areas of the club, especially the senior and veteran ladies as the accompanying picture shows, (ever the professional Nicola is missing as she was doing a cool down).
Well done girls and bring on the next one!!!!!
