Last Friday some of our junior members competed alongside the seniors at Elswick Harriers’ annual road relay race. The junior runners competed in one straight race, with both boys and girls running together over a distance of 1.6 mile. The seniors ran race separately and as a relay with four runners in each team over a distance of 2.2 miles.

Although there wasn’t the ideal amount of juniors racing on Friday, the ones who did made up for the absences with their enthusiasm and some great performances.

In the U13 race we had Lydia Stoker competing, and she was the 15th girl to finish, with a fantastic time of 10:42. We didn’t have any boys racing in the U13’s, but had 4 runners in the U15 race. Eve Quinn and Sarah Knight both ran phenomenal races and finished 1st and 2nd girl, Eve with a time of 9:36 and Sarah with a time of 9:37!

When asked about her run Eve said “It was great to win and I’m really pleased for Sarah to have caome second, we both wanted to run well for the club!”

Rowan James came through as the 21st boy with a time of 10:26, followed by Aidan Mitchell in 10:55, a great performance considering it was only his second race!

The men’s A team finished 8th overall with two junior competitors. Sean Mackie and Jack Tallentire helped the men secure a solid finish and both performed extremely well, Sean with a time of 11:57 and Jack with 11:55!
